‘Class 2’ refers to the classing system of imported produce into the U.K that categorises food by solely its appearance. ‘Defects’ in shape, colouring, texture and size, place produce into this sellable sub-class, with taste disregarded in a governmental quest for visual perfection.
Class 2, 2018 is a study of the palm-sized citrus, the Clementine.
Laser engraved onto one of the works segments - a set of text based instructions, inducing interaction towards the works display. There is no given way to display the work.
The final form, lead by the instructions, is decided by who is given the task of construction. With numerous possibilities of visual outcome, the work always remains in Class 2.
