‘Causeway’ consists of 105 handmade tiles made of soil. The piece reimagines a traditional path made of brick or concrete in one of the earth's most natural and sustainable materials, providing a commentary on a time many thousands of years ago when humankind first began putting distance between itself and the natural world. In questioning the utility and impact of something as commonplace as man-made paving material, the piece asks, "What has caused us to lose touch with the natural world?”
